LAN File Server drops connection with work groups

I recently upgraded a 5 workstation LAN to Windows XP
running Compag Presarios S5000NX computers with 640 RAM.
When left idol overnight, or for extended periods during
the day, the LAN drops the connection to the
workstations. When the file server is restarted, the work
stations reappear as network places. This same network
ran fine under Windows ME. Is there a timeout involved?
The problem causes the network reliability to be faulty.
Please direct me to solve this problem. Thanks.

There is a "q" article about changing the server
automatic disconnect time in the registry. You may want
to check that out.

What OS is the server running?

I basically have the same problem. Except mine is a 7
workstaion workgroup.....all xp pro.

My thinking is is that its the browser service getting out
of wack trying to figure out where the browser list is
kept. Shouldn't this become a non-issue if I take netbeui
out?

All 5 computers are running Windows XP home including the
server. The LAN is peer to peer. I'll check out the
disconnect tip. Thanks.
