LAN computers can't see server

I have a single Win2K server as a domain controller and recently have been
doing some work on the LAN and do not know what I did, but none of the
computers can see the server on the LAN under network places. I have Win2K
PC's and XP pro PC's. I can map drives to the server, so I know they are
talking. I just do not have an icon for the server in the PC's network Places.

I recently added another NIC card to the server trying to set up Remote
Services for VPN, which was a catastrophy...The DC lost contact with the LAN
and went bananas.it was backup-restore time...but it's up with both NICS
connected to the LAN.

The server can see all the PC's on the LAN. Just the PC's on the LAN can't
see the Server.

Then I had a problem with an XP computer, had to reload it's OS, and have
all PC's on the LAN as part of the domain, not a workgroup.

Is there something simple I am missing? I have NetBEUI, TCPIP, File and
printer sharing, etc. enabled. The PC's can see the PC's, just no one can see
the server, but everyone can connect.

Got any ideas where I should start looking?

Thanks,

Wes

I found it. The problem was the dual NIC's I had installed. Both 3COM if that
makes any difference.

I disabled Remote & Router, uninstalled and removed the NIC I installed for
Remote & Router and it all works great.

One thing that I was troubleshooting with both NIC's installed was Duplicate
Names on the Network. Of course this was on account of the 2 NIC's, but
anyone have an idea of how to resolve the Duplicate Name thing with Dual
NIC's?

Thanks,

Wes

What exactly are you trying to do? If you have two NICs you need two
addresses or you need to "team" the NICs if the hardware allows.

I was setting up Routing and Remote Access to get VPN working. So I needed
two NICs. They both had separate IP's. One on 001.008 and one on 001.017.

Since I've removed one of the NIC's I do not have the duplicate names error
at logon.

I even tried changing the names, etc. in active directory and it didn't help.

Thanks,

Wes
