KVM switch and Vista Beta 2 Video

Clark

I am running a GeForce 6800 GT card with the 88.61 Nvidia drivers.

I run a KVM switch so I can use 2 computers. One with Vista and the other
with XP. I mentioned earlier when I switch from one computer to the other,
I get a device connect or disconnect alert. I have also noticed, if I do
not have the Vista computer selected and it goes into a screen saver mode,
if I switch back to it, there is no video signal. I have tried hitting keys
to "wake it up" with no effect, hence I have to restart.

If I hit the power button, Vista will go through a shutdown cycle and
occasionally, the video will return when it displays the "windows is
shutting down" screen.

Questions:
Has anyone else seen this?

Is there an approved KVM switch for Vista, since I did not see one?

Could it be related to the Nvidia drivers?

Are there any key combinations or any other way to wake up the video signal?

Thanks,
Clark

I have a similar problem that when I'll turn my monitors off if I'm not
going to be using the computer for awhile and when I turn them back on my
primary monitor doesn't come back but my secondary is unaffected. I don't
yet know what the cause of the problem is though.

I am having a similar problem. I have a 6600GT with the Nvidia drivers. I
also have a 4-port KVM switch. However, I only use it to switch the monitors.
I have a seperate keyb/mouse for each machine. (using the KVM causes repsonse
problems with gaming for me) In XP I could switch the monitor to my server
whenever. With Vista, when I do this I hear the device disconnect sound and
my resolution goes to like 800x600 and just one monitor. When I switch back I
hear the device connect sound and I have to re-setup the monitors all over
again. It is needless to say this is annoying and I have no idea if it is the
drivers or the OS itself. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I am having almost identical problems as this. I am using a 6600GT card with
the nvidia drivers. I find the sounds are identical and i have to re-setup
the screen everytime.

To all that have this problem, seems that some KVM's when switched off the
system drop the video signal. Vista can detect when a monitor is unplugged
from most modern video cards, hence the disconnect sound. I have 2
different KVM's and have noticed that one of them does this, and the other
does not. Tested it by directly hooking up a monitor and unplugging it, I
also get the disconnect sound. So KVM issue, not vista. Weird thing is my
KVM that does not work is a nicer Belkin 4 port model, the one that works
fine is a low end Zonet 4 porter.
