Keyboard won't print the letter "v" & the number "1" in Word

I've uninstalled the keyboard and re-installed it with no success.
I tried to restore default settings using the Ctrl + spacebar keys - no good.

I take it this only happens in Word? Does it work if you start Word in its
safe mode (hold the CTRL key whilst starting and positively acknowledge the
ensuing prompt) ? If so then see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm. My guess would
be to rename the normal template.
