IE6 (with XP-Prof-SP1) no longer scrolls the current browser window up
and down when using the up-arrow, down-arrow, page-up, or page-down
keys.

I know those keys used to scroll in the browser.

How do I re-enable those keys?

Check for a stuck modifier key (probably an Alt- key since Ctrl-
would normal do something when modifying those keys.)

If it is not a mechanical thing, to "unstick" it you just need to use
the opposite key e.g. if LeftAlt- was held down too long and
thus is the cause press RightAlt- and vice versa.

You can use a command window to test which modifier key is stuck
by trying to type in the command line. E.g. if the characters you type
are each prefixed by a caret (^) you would then know that the problem
was a stuck Ctrl- key. A stuck Alt- key manifests itself in that window
by pressing Spacebar since Alt-Space would open the window's System
menu. Typing a letter which has a defined function when modified by
Win- (e.g. R) would show you if that modifier was involved, whereas
no amount of pressing cursor keys would show that it was still on.

I have that problem as well. but, only occasionally. If I reboot
everything comes back to normal.

FWIW, I have the same problem, although intermittently. The arrow
keys/page up/page down are only non-functioning in IE6 when browsing.
The keys work in text boxes in IE6 viewed web pages, in the Explorer
shell, in other applications, but they do not function while browsing
with IE6.

A quick reboot solves the problem.

I have killed every service and running application and the problem
continues to exist until a reboot. It is not something I can reproduce
on command.

This started after a windows update if I recall correctly. I sure
wish it could be resolved.

FYI, I have a Dell D600 notebook, Windows XP SP1, all hotfixes and
updates installed.

Oh, yes, Tim, can you move icons on your desktop? when my
arrow/pageup/pagedown keys quit functioning, I cannot move an icon to
the trash or move an icon anywhere on the desktop. it looks like it is
going to move, but it won't physically relocate when dropped. I can cut
and paste the icon, but I can't move it with the mouse.
