Dell Laptop (Latitude, Win2000) 4 or 5 keys when depressed will result in
wrong characters, such as ] instead of K, 6 instead of i, and others.

It sounds as if you were in NumLock mode. Read the
manual to find out how to switch in and out of NumLock.
