I appologise for being a lot more than ten minutes

Well, I feel just a bit perturbed with not having tried that to begin with. I used a different key board and it works; not only did I do that, I tried my keyboard on the other pc here. The problem lies in my keyboard apparently; but now I am wondering what may cause that? It has been well maintained; it has not had any abuse or inflictions, this does not make sense to me. I am truelly puzzled. That is the second item I have used on this computer and had it malfuction. The first one was my mouse. Oh, wait, third item, I went through 'Two' mice now.........it has only been Five Months!?! All the equipment I have used for this pc had been 'Brand-Spanking-New'.......the computer has not iddentified any problems, and my fiance and I have reviewed the possible locations and files for any changes made concerning the keyboard. I went back over the performance logs; I just don't understand how I can even have possibly gone through two mice and now a keyboard in such a short period f time. I have not been able to find any virus on my pc, and as I stated earlier, I 'Know' my things have been well maintained. I don't know if you or anyone else may be able to give an hypothesis, but I would readilly accept the responces given with or without suggestions. Thank you much.

It should work straight away, unless it is a wireless keyboard, then you may
have to install the drivers first for it to work.
Consult the documentation that comes with the new keyboard.

Hardware fails; a lot more often than people seems to realize. As
to why, it's hard to say. What brand/model is the PC, the keyboard,
and the troublesome mice?

Okay, sorry I am taking so long to respond to your responcess. Kids, family and friends; not to mention I am having to use my fiances keyboard and he does business on his pc. Anyhow, you asked what brand/model everything involved are

The PC involved: Intel Inside Pentium II proccessor (Laptop

The docking station/port/bridge: Gateway 200

(not sure which titel is trully correct, heard it called all of those things

First Mouse to Fail: LogiTe

Second Mouse: Fellow

Failed Keyboard: Silicon Graphi

Failed Keyboard: Intel Inside Pentium II proccesso

Working keyboard: Compa

I am using Windows XP Proffessional as my opperating system.............Oh boy! I wish he would tell me these things before I end up doing this stuff. I just asked him 'again' if there was anything that had been wrong with this PC in the past; this time instead of "Nope" I got "Yeah".........so........If I can get the people for Intel Products to help me (Adam said they wouldn't help him) I will let you know what turns up. Ihy!.........Sigh..........Okay, I'll keep you updated. Thanks again.

You are using a docking station? Sounds like your docking station is going
bad.

I think part of the problem is that you tend to use/purchase lower
priced, lower quality components (with the exception of the Silicon
Graphics item - they're generally over-priced for what you get). You
might get longer service from your keyboards & mice if you start using
more robust, but more expensive, models.

well, I haven't been able to get any assistance yet, but in repsonce to your letter, they were the only brands (- Silicon Graphics, that was a gift from friend) that we can afford. Also, Walmart is ussually good at keeping cheap products cheap! hehe! I'm at a loss; I'm afraid to even try any other new or working piece of equipment on the PC. I mean, why would the keyboard on the LT itself not work? And on top of that, tell me it is working just fine? Like I stated, everything is/was well maintained and nothing is/was abused; all files and info logs on all PC information/activities check out ok. Such a puzzle...wish I could get ahold of product informants...*Sigh* Well, I really appreciate your trying to help me; thank you

My docking station checks out 'ok' as well as everything else that I could think of that, may be the cause of my consternation. I have been unable to contact any product informants either, to ask them. I think, maybe this is helpless. Thankyou for your feed back though, I appreciate it

Find the pin-out for the keyboard or the mouse and see if
the 5 volts is really 5 volts.
