keybd malfunction

As Thomas, my keybd produces incorrect characters after
upgrading to Win XP Home, form 98. The @ (alt 64) symbol
above the 2 gives me ", the fwd slash give me é, and the
number sign above the 3, gives me /.

Please HELP!
ps, I have tried several keybds - that`s not the problem.
 
You need to tell the keyboard which country you are in.

Control Panel, Regional and Language Settings.
