kernerl 32 memory access violation

P

Phil

Recently received an e-mail from "Microsoft" that
contained this:
"MS Customer
this is the latest version of security update,
the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which
eliminates all known security vulnerabilities affecting
MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express
as well as three new vulnerabilities. Install now to
continue keeping your computer secure from these
vulnerabilities. This update includes the functionality
of all previously released patches."

It contained an attached file called "update63.exe", 106
KB in size. Assuming it was a legit file, I ran it and
now I'm getting a "memory access violation in module
kernel32 at ..."(the dots being two different address
numbers).

This error occurs when my PC enters XP after booting up.
Besides the messages, all else seems to be working fine.
Haven't found anything in TechNet.

Any suggestions?

Do a Google search for SWEN virus. You have it.
We are getting tired of this topic.
Or search this forum.

No you didn't. It wasn't from Microsoft, and it contained a
virus.

Microsoft *nevers sends patches by E-mail.
