Kernel32.dll error in explorer

I'm running XP SP1 with auto-updates, and recently Windows
Explorer and/or Internet Explorer cause a Kernel32.dll
error which closes the browser window. I can do nothing,
as this message is constantly coming up.

I've tried running AdAware, SpyBot, CWShredder and checked
for Viruses with McAfee. I uninstalled NetZero, as I felt
this may be the culprit.

I've also tried adding a few lines to my config.sys file
that a few websites recommended.

None of it helped...

I'm going nuts! Help would be appreciated.

I did that last night :( No such luck- it didn't solve
the problem.

I'm going to install SP2 tonight- if THAT doesn't work,
I'm going to do a re-install with a CD that has SP2 on it.

It is VERY annoying and I can't believe there is nothing
on the MS website about this.
