Keeping Vista...

Marc Nutty

Hello,

Well I have had beta 2 since release and I've tested most areas of it like.
I was wondering if I'm wasting a pretty decent PC by keeping Vista installed
(mainly for the sleek visual design to be honest) and therefore not
performing as well as if it were on XP again.

For example I havent wanted to install a load of gaems which it is capable
of running cos with Vista it is pretty sluggish.

cheers for responses,

Hi Nutty.

Actually, the few games I've installed: Once Upon a Knight, Age of Empires
III and Civilization 4, have run BETTER on Vista x64 for me than they do on
Win XP. The look and feel of them are really nice.

I know that they aren't QUITE the games most people refer to, but I had to
throw my "2 sense" in.

The public beta 2 build did run really sluggish, the refresh EDW build id
personally choose hands down over XP. In the newer builds performance is not
really an issue, still some services and applications(*cough* Internet
Explorer) crash periodically but thats about it.

Only you can decide that based on what programs you use. Vista beta 2 is
not intended to be your primary computer system anyway.

This is BETA code. We all know that...

If your games run at all, be happy... they -should- run better in gold Vista
code with gold drivers.

And that's my 2 cents.

I had trouble with beta 2...was fed up and now am back in xp...will wait
eagerly for rc1 cuz I am missing the nice aero theme...man, the xp interface
seemed pretty bland when I dumped vista and reverted back to xp.

Hang in there, the post beta 2 releases are considerably faster, and RC1
will be with us (hopefully) in a couple of weeks.. You should have a MUCH
improved expereice with RC1.

RC1 will not be with us in a couple of weeks. Five or six maybe. Techbeta
will receive a new interim build in a week or so and have a few weeks to get
remaining issues reported before the RC1 release. The stuff all over the
net about this build and it being off of the RC1 branch appear to be quite
reliable.

I have to agree. I have HL2 and Halo running better on Vista 64 then XP 64
and when I run 3D Mark Vista 64 is getting a better then 10% more in rating.
