Hi, is there any way to keep my internet connection 'alive' so that others
users on my home network can use the internet when the pc with the main
internet connection is put into standby? Thanks

Buy a router and stop using Internet connection sharing.

I think also there is a feature in your BIOS called "wake up on LAN"
that ensures that the PC wakes up if there is any LAN activity, so if
it does go to sleep it "should" wake up again when a remote PC trys to
access the net

If you are using DSL connection, buying a router and without Internet
sharing seems to be the best way.

You could also consider buying one wireless router with 4 LAN ports which
gives you the ability to share Internet access either with LAN cable or
wirless.
