Master Your Windows looks like, among other things, a good alternative
to BHODemon, which calls home to report unknown BHOs. Admittedly this
is a benign thing, but you have no choice in the matter. It tells you
it's going to do so, then you only have the option of pressing "OK". A
firewall will block it however. The author of BHODemon has informed me
that in the next version, if you do this the program won't function
at all and will close.

This seems kinda strange, but hey, the author can do what he likes. I
don't have to use the program.

And now, I REALLY don't have to use the program!

Thanks, Frank!

I still use BHODemon 1.x. Never did like 2.x. It got too fancy and started
getting in the way. I use WinPatrol to catch BHO's (and a lot of other
stuff) in realtime. I use BHODemon 1.x to investigate and de-activate BHO's.

Ver 2 'calls home', ver 1 doesn't. And v1 seems so much easier to use.

It's good to know that somebody agrees with me when I describe it as
calling home. I sent an email to the author and explained that I
didn't like not having a choice in the matter, as well as explaining
that anybody with any brains these days trusts nobody else in such
matters. His reply was that he was going to make the next version of
BHODemon *fail to install* if you don't agree that it should be able
to call home *without you're being able to stop it* and report
"anonymous, plain-text data about your BHOs". He also said that
"during the upload process, you will be given a choice: let the
program upload, or exit the program". He went on to say basically that
if you don't want to allow the uploads, then you "...no one is forcing
you to use BHODemon."

Okay, fine. As a mere user, I have no rights in how the program is
configured. However, if the programmer is going to ignore the feelings
of the end user entirely in such matters, then he's right *I don't
have to use the program and won't.*

*I'll even go one step further and start warning others not to use it
because it calls home. In fact, I'm going to start a thread about this
bullshit right now.*

But again, thanks for the information. 80)>
