Keep Word open - no files

Where is the switch to keep MS Word 2003 open, even though there are no open
documents?

Ex: Whenever the last document is closed, MS Word also closes. Even though,
the small box containing the 'x' on the file is closed, rather than the small
box with the 'x' for the program.

Probably a silly question, but thanks in advance anyway!

The black x should just close the document, the white x on the red
background closes the application.

You can also use File>Close, or add a button to the toolbar that will close
a file. To do this click on the down arrow at the end of a toolbar (it
display the tip "Toolbar Options" when you hover the mouse point over it and
click on the Close button to add it to the toolbar.
