Keep Losing Connection

I'm hooked to Broadband and some reason my PC keeps going offline after 2 or
3 hours. I started having this problem after I used my internet provider's
'anti-pop-up and spyware blocker to remove annoying pop-ups that were
keeping me from opening my browser. I had this problem about 3 months ago
and it corrected itself after I got an update to Internet Explorer. That
doesn't work now and I've uninstalled and reinstalled Explorer also. I've
contacted my internet provider concerning this but of course; they have me
reboot and it as always comes back online. Then, a couple hours later or
so, I've lost connection again. My internet provider says it's not my
connection as it's working fine, but why should it keep going offline after
a period of time?

I'd appreciate any input that might help me solve this problem.

Thanks,
Larry Clement

Are you by chance using the free version of Zone Alarm as your
firewall? If so, try turning it off and use the Windows firewall for
awhile to see if that's the problem.

I had this same problem with my ISP and we tried many things none of
which worked. I finally took a chance and turned off Zone Alarm (free
version) and reverted to using the Windows XP SP2 firewall. No
problems whatsoever. I downloaded the latest free version of Sygate
Personal Firewall and am using that instead of ZA. No problems, the
connection stays alive for as long as I like.

Larry, see if there is a power management setting on the properties of the
network card.....it maybe set to save power to card after inactivity...

If you have a router, that's likely your problem. My router keeps dropping the
connection even though the modem maintains a good lock on the cable.

My net has been dropping on and off for the past half a year almost now, but im very sure its my router.

I've kept an eye on the settings and what accurs when the net drops, what basiclly what happens, is my conected light flashes orange insted of a steady green, and i have 0kbps insted of the 2200 ish i should have. though however i do maintain my ip adress.

what ive concluded is that it is the fact that my router seems to cut out when large amounts of information is sent.

I do use ZA-Pro though i hardly believe this is the case as i do not see how ZA could affect the routers connection to the net, though i do see how it could prevent the pc from connecting to the router.

Any advice, hints, or suggestions would be nice.

P.S. it might just be my ISP (Bulldog communications) as it seems to always happen after 6, though it has happened before that hour many a time.
