need a non technical answer to a problem. sis-inlaw can not
install update KB835732 after it is downloaded and the
install will hang for a long time, till she just cancels it.

thanks

Hi Jeff,
It had me worried for a bit too...
On a 300Mhz P4 with a Gig of ram, it took almost 10 minutes to install the
last 2 updates I sucked down. I came that close to hitting reset myself. It
may take quite a bit longer depending on the system you run. Patience may
pay, give it at least 20-30 mins before giving up next time. If you don't
lock up, let it do it's thing, and let us know if it works.

hi . she had to do a system restore as rebooting killed
the system ,but managed to boot into safe mode to
restore.(add/remove programs did not list anything
installed in KB835732 to try and remove).and not talking
about 10 or 30 minutes. it was 3 hours and the update
KB835732 not installed. what a mess this update is doing on
different systems.

Sounds like you were lucky to get it restored and I was lucky it installed
without side effects.

It took about 3 minutes for the download and install for me.

Of course, I royally had SFC and WFP messed up... iow,
SFC and WFP were NOT working. And for some reason
I really don't think they work when they're working but I
think I fixed it but I won't say so yet.

Could you do me a favor and tell me if you have Windows
File Protection active and if System File Checking hasn't been
adjusted?
