Kaspersky false positives?

N

nailer

just downloaded Genuine Fractals 5 from the company web site and KAV
deleted the lot claiming Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Mudrop.z.

on a commercial product?

it also detected the same trojan on some other files that were happily
sitting on my HD for yonks. And the trojan has been in cirulation
since 2005.
How come it has not been detected earlier? I use KAV for many years.

Has any1 had a similar problem?

TIA

Yes, I've also had similar problems. I've noticed that KAV seems to find
some false positives after various updates. Used to hardly ever get any
FP's with KAV, but seems to be more frequent lately. I would upload the
file to Virus Total and see if any of the other AVs flag it as malware.
As far as malware being on a commercial product, depends on the
company (let us not forget Sony). At any rate, if you upload the file
to Virus Total and the other AVs don't hit on it, I would wait scan it
again after another couple of signature updates and see if KAV still
flags it. If so, I'd send the file to Kaspersky labs as a possible
false positive.
