Kaplan Software Doesn't Work - Receive "MCI Driver not loaded" err

M

Can someone please point me to a fix? I called Kaplan and they gave me a
dead link to a supposed Microsoft fix for this error. I'm running Vista
64-bit Ultimate but can't access a Kaplan study program on a CD because of
this MCI error. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Please try the usual fix:
Please right-click on the file and select Run as Administrator.

Hi,

What was the link? What was it supposed to fix? Did you tell them that the
link was dead?

Basically, it's their software so they are going to have to find a way to
patch it.

Unfortunately, neither of the previous two solutions worked. Running as
administrator, or even trying to run in compatibility mode both return the
error. I called Kaplan and they said the driver was a Microsoft
responsibility. The link they gave me was:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0175119-9a5b-4

It seems to enable or fix some extensions in Media Player, that the Kaplan
program requires.

Without knowing what it was supposed to fix, it's literally impossible to
tell you where that fix may be now. Contact Kaplan and let them know the
link they provided is a dead end.

Regardless of what they state, an error with their software is their
responsibility to fix.

Mikeynavy,

did you ever figure out how to fix your MCI driver problem? I am having similar issues.

In searching the web, it seems that Kaplan is trying to palm this off on
MSFT and it's not an unknown problem. You guys need to lean hard on Kaplan
because it is not MSFT's problem to fix--it's Kaplan's and from what I hear,
Kaplan gets a considerable amount of bucks for their courses like the MCAT
ones. I don't know about their software costs. This problem from MikeNavy
has bounced around on the web since May.

If I had purchased software from Kaplan and it was not working with an
error, I'd be going to Kaplan for the solution. Sonmeone developed their
software they paid to do it. It did not conceive immaculately, and if I had
your solution I would have given it to you. I don't see anything coming up
in reference to Kaplan software MCI driver not loading on a MSFT site.

Good luck,

CH
