K9 spam blocker? Suggestions

D

DaveH

Thanks in advance.

For at least a year K9 has worked flawlessly. Now all of a sudden, it is
only filtering about 50% of the spam. Are there other K9 users experiencing
this?

Maybe it's time to move on. It sure would be nice to have a email filtering
application that would pull all the spam before it got to my email client
rather than just marking it as spam.

Is there such an application?

Again thanks,

Dave H.

I am not experiencing this. It is working great for me. There is an
option to rebuild the database that may help.

Check with your ISP. They may have an option to filter your messages
before you ever see them. There are also other spam programs like
(Mailwasher?) that will do what you want. You can also use K9's Server
check feature to delete them at the server level if you wish.

Worked flawlessly up until about a month ago when I stopped using it. I
use Thunderbird now which has a built-in spam filter.

Still running at around 96.9% for me. Occasionally one will slip
through, but not often.

If there is, I for one would never use it. You could never be
absolutely sure it wouldn't falsely mark a legitimate message as spam,
thus preventing you from ever seeing a potentially important email.

Thank you for the reply. I have rebuilt my database and will see if that
helps. The darn program has worked flawlessly till now.

We'll see,

Thank you for the reply. Up until two days ago my filtering percentage was
about 99.50. I think that I could live with missing 1 out of 200 good
emails. Even if it were 3 out of 100, I could easily live with it. I
suspect that my postal service (US) isn't much better.

Again thanks,

I've noticed more and more spammers using .gifs instead of text to convey
their sales pitch, thus bypassing any word lists you may have
accumulated.

Along with the catalogs, advertisements, and flyers (i.e. spam), that
I get in my street mailbox, I frequently also receive mail addressed
to people living at other addresses. At least with email I don't have
to deal with getting someone else's authentic mail, or wonder who
might be getting mine!

This is getting way OT but recently had a disagreement with my mail carrier.
She said that I need to collect my mail daily because my box is small.
Because I pay all my bills online, I get very few(approx. 1/week) pertinent
mail messages. She threatened me with revocation of mail services. Please,
please, I pleaded. She then started placing my mail on my stoop. I placed
a small trash can there. Need I go further. US mail service has been
replaced.

In my country we have a rule that says you can put up a small text at
your mailbox saying:

No commercial stuff, please!

And it works. I get 3-4 mails per month, my regular bills, and nothing
more.

Without that text I get a 2 feet high pile of commercial stuff, flyers,
food extra prices leaflets, etc..

When we started this rule, or is it a law?, 10-15 years ago, a few
companies which distribute commercial stuff did not respect these texts,
but after a year of complaints all involved distributors respected it.

That is a rule you could demand in other countries too.
It relieves people of sorting of the mail, it saves trees, and it
relieves the garbage collection service from a big amount of trash.
