K8V Deluxe onboard sound

After installing an old PCI Sound Blaster card for its game port,
Windows XP no longer sees my K8V integrated sound device.

Is there a way for me to have the PCI SB card in the machine while
using K8V onboard audio? I checked the BIOS setting after installing
the PCI SB card and onboard sound remains enabled.

As far as I can tell if the BIOS detects another sound card then the on
board one is automatically disabled. I know that the BIOS setting says
enabled, but that doesn't seem to matter. The manual, page 4-22, seems to
get this completely wrong.

OnBoard AC'97 Audio [Auto]
[Auto] allows the BIOS to detect whether you are using any audio device.
If an audio device is detected, the onboard audio controller is enabled; if
no audio device is detected, the controller is disabled. Configuration
options: [Disabled]
