k8v Deluxe and SATA questions

Mest

Hello,
I am building a K8V Deluxe, 3200+ system and have a few
questions. I am still waiting for some components to get here via UPS
but I have been doing some reading in here and on the web so hopefully
things will go as smoothly as possible. The only thing that still kind
of confuses me is the SATA stuff.
Anyway, my system will have 2 SATA hard drives (non Raid)
and my dvdrw and dvd drives will be on the IDE channels. From what I
understand, when I am installing WinXP I will have to press F6 and
install drivers from a floppy durring my install. Does each SATA
controller (VIA and Promise) have different drivers that I have to
use? I plan on using the VIA sata1 and sata2 connecters and I found a
VIA serial ata raid driver on the via webpage for my chipset. Is this
the one I will need?
Also, in the bios I will have to set the boot configuration to
"other devices" or something like that (similar to scsi) correct?
Any advice on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David

Lost One

I ran a single SATA drive in my config.

Here's my final setup:

Win XP Pro
Seagate 120 on SATA1 port

in Bios
ADVANCED
ONBOARD DEVICES
OnBoard Promise Controller [enabled]
Operating Mode [Onboard IDE Operat]

Only 1 of the three SATA/RAID drivers provided by ASUS on the download page

http://usa.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=K8V Deluxe

would allow Win XP Pro to see the drive in order to format and install the OS to it.

6420raid_210a.zip Version 2.10A Date 2003/10/22
Description VIA VT6420 (VT8237) SATA RAID Driver Package Version 2.10a WHQL.
OS Win2K / WinXP / Win2003

I used the create disk feature in here to make the driver disk, and hit the F6 driver
add, and then followed the instructions. The drive appeared in the available drives
list for installing the os.

After the O/S is installed, I get "VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller" in device manager
under the SCSI/RAID Controllers section.

I ALSO have a "RAID Controller" under the "? Other Devices" section. I have
disabled this item to prevent confusion for myself down the road.

Fairly straightforward -would be simpler if the manual was more clear about how
to do it.

If you're not RAIDing the multiple drives then I'd say this should work for two
independent drives the same as for my one.
