I just upgrade to XP pro from 98se. Able to network with
98se and NT 4.0, 2000. Recently purchased DLINK router 624
and 650 wireless card to network these pcs. I powered
down modem, connected and repowered; excellent connections
to internet. I ran network wizard and setup everything on
the xp pc, carefully tracking names. rebooted and shared a
few files. Ran the wizard in 98. 98 showed 2 sets of
computers of trays, 1 says "Internal Gateway:
Unconfigured" The other said "P2P networking downloads 0
uploads 0". The xp tray computers said showed wireless
network connections/speed 54 Mbps /signal strenght
excellent.
Network connections show Local area connections as having
a network cable unplugged constantly which I have yet to
find.
I have searched extensively on the board, google, etc,and
learned quite a bit. Apparrently not the right bit, or not
applied the information correction. I did get some
information on DHCP which was promising, but didnt pan. It
doesnt help to be squirming with XP, but things look and
are called differently.
Any help would be SOOOOO appreciated so I can move on with
my life and leave captivity.
Thanks!!!

Here are some things that you can try to help everyone
figure out how to best sort out your problem.

What are the IPs of the computers (using their
appropriate connection method, wifi, LAN, etc)?
Furthermore, what is the subnet mask and default gateway
listed for each computer?

What is the IP of the router (This should be the same as
the configuration homepage for the router)?

Can you ping the router from all machines?

Can you ping the other computers from each computer (i.e.
both ways)?

I'm assuming that you're connecting to the internet
through the router here: Can all the computers ping a
standard website like Google? Can all computers browse
the web normally?

For now, it seems like you're using the wireless card on
the XP machine, so you can ignore the Local Area Network
(LAN) connection. This connection would show up as
connected if you were to plug an ethernet cable into the
computer.

Let us know what you find.
