Just got done reformating my h/d... Im having problems

So I just reformated my hard drive on XP and I did it so I could have it back
up all the old files to another folder... now when I try to access the my
documents folder from my old windows account.. it says access denied and wont
let me open or even delete the folders... i think it is because i made those
folder private... but how do i work around that and/or fix it.
