Junk e-mail reporting tool is broken

I just installed the Junk E-mail reporting tool v1.1 onto my outlook 2007
system as my company utilizes Microsoft Frontbridge Spam technologies.

This tool flat out throws an error when trying to report spam. Can someone
help?

By any chance, are you behind a proxy server of some kind? My initial
thought is that you're behind a Microsoft ISA Server and the machine doesn't
have the firewall client installed, which I believe it will need.

I wish it were that simple :). I am not behind any proxy. I can load up a
sniffer to see if it's even trying to generate traffic, but due to the
quickness of the error, it seems as if it doesn't even get that far.

The only thing I can think of is maybe some type of conflict with the
mapi32.dll file installed on my system? The reason I say this is because I
can't even do basic functions that I should (i.e. from within Word, do a send
to email recipient, or from explorer, right click -> send to -> email
recipient). They just error citing a couple of errors, one mentioning a mapi
problem. Haven't found a fix to those either!

I do have the Exchange 2003 System Manager installed on my machine, and I've
heard you shouldn't use that while there is a local outlook install. I would
love to test without the exchange manager, but it can't uninstall!

Can't as in it won't uninstall or can't because people won't let you do it?

From explorer, right click file: I don't recall the error it used to throw,
but for some reason it now does not throw any error at all. It just acts as
if I didn't do anything. Nothing happens.

From within Word or other office applications: I get Mapi32.dll is an
invalid Extended MAPI Library. And then another popup citing: Mail is not
installed on your system.

In regards to uninstalling Exchange 2003 System Manager, I physically can't
uninstall. When I try to remove the app, it starts the installation manager.
If I select 'uninstall' I get the following error:

- You cannot install this product on a computer running Windows Professional

Exchange Administrator role on the Exchange organization using the Exchange
Administrative Delegation Wizard.

I can only do a "change" and uninstall the two components I'm using (exch
administrator and 5.5 administrator). But that leaves the installation in my
add/remove programs which makes me worried that it doesn't fully uninstall
all components.

I did some testing.

I did a "change" installation for my Exchange Tools to remove the Exchange
System Manager. I then rebooted. I then ran a repair on my office 2007
installation. Rebooted again. This did NOT fix my issue.

I happened to run across an exe called fixmapi.exe located in my
c:\windows\system32 directory. I ran that, and low-n-behold, my issue is now
resolved!! Every issue I had above is fixed (emailing from explorer, word,
and the junk mail plugin works).

I would normally be happy with the above results, but now here-in lies my
problem. I need the Exchange System manager in order to get the email tabs
from within my Active Directory Users & Computers snap-in to manage users in
my domain.

In light of this, I had to reinstall the Exchange System Administrator, and
now, as you guessed it, all of my issues have returned! I tried running the
fixmapi tool afterwards to see if it would fix the Outlook mapi, but it did
nothing. *sigh*

There has to be a way to get the Exchange MMC snap-ins without it installing
the updated mapi32.dll file. I could possibly just copy the mapi32.dll file
from another workstation, but there has to be another proper way to do all of
this. Love the MS DLL hell!

Any suggestions?

Yep. Either Term Server to the server or use Virtual PC to set up a local
copy of an OS and install the Exchange System Manager on it. Unfortunately,
Outlook and System Manager aren't compatible, something I found out after

I must be missing something, or MS is really daft. Honestly I don't need the
Exchange System Manager. The only reason it's installed is so I have the
ability to manage user mailboxes from within Active Directory Users and
Computers.

I doesn't make sense to me that something as trivial as that task cannot be
done if you use outlook for your email client! My workstation is what I use
to manage my domain, and I happen to require email. Is it implied that if I
want to manage users from my domain, that I have to TS into another server to
do it? That's asinine!

If there's a way to get the exchange tabs in my ADUC snap-in without
installing the Exchange System Manager, I'm all for it!

Actually, if that's what you want, to have those Exchange tabs, then, yes,
AFAIK, you need the Exchange System Manager. You might want to ask in the
microsoft.public.exchange.admin newsgroup, but I'm about 98% sure on that.

"Another" server? No. Just TS to the server running Exchange, rather than
using your workstation. And no need to shout at me, I don't work for
Microsoft. You want to complain about it being asinine, call them. You
bought their software, complain that you can't use it the way you want.

Or, don't use Outlook, but use OWA instead. Or purchase a cheap sub-$200
laptop and run the management tools on that. Lots of businesses, small and
large, find ways to work around this.

Haha.. my apologies.. I wasn't directing my anger towards you :). I
appreciate what you've tried to help me with. I just can't stand MS
sometimes.
