Jumping cursor

For the past sev. weeks my cursor jumps suddenly and
unexpectedly at random times to one of the corners of the
screen. It seemed to start happening after I installed a
new printer (Lexmark X63). I have a Sony VAIO processor
with a Sony optic mouse and run windows XP home. Help!

Could you possibly be using a reflective/shiny surface under your optical
mouse? It's best to have a non-reflective surface, preferably with a
non-repeating pattern of some sort. I used to use the surface of my wood
desk for the pattern, but it turned out to be too glossy and would produce
unexpected results... now I use a sheet of printer paper and I haven't seen
the pointer jump in months.
