Jumping Between Cells

I was wondering if someone could clarify the following:

When double clicking near the edge of a cell, the cursor
often jumps to another cell in a totally different area of
the worksheet. At first we though it was the file, but
this actually happens if we open up a new spreadsheet and
move around the page - double clicking on different cell
edges. Before you know it, it starts jumping to other
cells.

We have a spreadsheet whose cell heights are not very big
and the constant jumping is quite annoying. Is there
anything that can be done to stop it?

Thanks,

If you double-click on the left edge of the activecell then it will take you to
the leftmost cell in that row, and likewise if you double-click on the top edge
of the activecell it will take you to the topmost cell of that column - Is that
what you mean?

That's it Thank you.

You explained it correctly. But, getting back to her original question, is
there anything that can be done to stop it?

I realize it's a feature. But it's an annoying one, one I have never used
intentionally, yet have done lots of times accidentally. It would be very
nice if there were an option to turn this feature off.

One way to turn it off kills something else--so I don't turn it off.

Tools|Options|Edit tab|Allow cell drag and drop

But drag and drop (and autofill) is too useful to disable (for me at least).
