* For any BIOS using the CHS (normal, or large) translation mode,
the maximum cylinder value is 16,383. The CHS mode limits the BIOS
to being able to address a maximum drive size of 8.4 larger than
8.4 GB the BIOS must support the Logical Block Address (LBA) mode.
LBA uses the MAXLBA value as the addressing method to access the
cylinders on drives larger than 8.4 GB. Both the mother board and
the Operating System (OS) must support extended interrupt 13 (Xint
13) in order to prepare, format and access information on any
drive
larger than 8.4 GB.
In newer computer systems, the BIOS (CMOS) settings include an
"Auto"
entry. If your system supports it, select "Auto" and enable the
"LBA"
(Logical Block Addressing) Mode. Then let the system auto detect
the
drive parameters. If your system does not support LBA, then you may
require a BIOS Upgrade, an Extended BIOS EIDE adapter card, or
Maxtor's
Free "MaxBlast Plus" HDD Installation Software.
~ The fields LZ (Landing Zone) and WP (Write
Pre-compensation) are not used by Maxtor drives and the
values may be either 0 or the values set by the BIOS.
** Maxtor Defines One Megabyte (MB) as 10^6 or One Million
Bytes (1,000,000) and One Gigabyte (GB) as 10^9 or One
Billion Bytes (1,000,000,000).
