Jpeg image problems

Andy Webb

I've just recently had problems with one or two Jpeg images
in PowerPoint.

These Jpegs load in ok but as soon as I go to scale one the colours
just go mad. One size it might be black and white, another size
and the colours change and might become Purple and Green.

Also the resolution seems to change, from reasonable to very low resolution.

Has anyone had this problem before, is it a known PP bug?

I've had other people try the Jpegs on their computers and they get the same
problems,
so it's not a bad installation on my machine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Andy

I've seen this happen -- usually when the JPG is an extremely large file
size. So how big is your JPG?

Is the JPG CMYK or is it RGB? If it's CMYK, try changing it to RGB and see
if that helps.

Also see How to set graphics hardware acceleration back.
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm Often changing that setting
will help with odd display issues such as this one.

You may need to change the color depth on your monitor display also. I know
I had one system a long time ago that had a certain "sweet spot" of color
depth and hardware acceleration settings that allowed photos and images to
show without strange distortions such as what you're describing.

Thanks for the suggestions but the file is only 62k and it is RGB.

In fact I've checked everything I can think of. Even changed RGB to CMYK and
back again
with no luck.

Saving as a PNG solves it, if I load the PNG back into Photoshop and resave
as a Jpg it's fine too.

The only thing I can think of is that the jpgs come via a Mac, could byte
order be an issue?

Thanks

Andy

Ah, good. Glad to hear that.

Not a clue, but it sure *sounds* reasonable, anyway! :)

Probably not, if the image worked in the first place. I suspect byte order
would have prevented the images from working at all. Is (was) the jpg saved
as a 'progressive' jpg? Those are great on the web, but cause troubles in
some apps.

Highly improbable. But is there a chance that some sort of color management
info has been embedded in the JPG and that resaving at your end strips it out?

Or (another shot rings out in the dark) if the JPGs are from a digital camera,
that there's something odd about the EXIF info saved with the file?
