JPEG format not recognised

I have a problem opening JPG, JPEG file formats. An error message appears (not always) that the file format is not recognised. Other images open without a problem. I have tried re associateing the files and re writing the extensions manually and even changing the extensions, nothing seems to work. Any help would be gratefully recieved. Thank you.

Hi Stuart.

Have you looked in the registry at the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.j
pg? If there are any subkeys like OpenWithList you can safely delete them.
