JPEG attachments not always visible in Windows Mail message

Hi everybody. I occasionally get an email in Windows Mail with 5-10 or so
jpeg photos (I have Vista Home Premium) sent as an attachment. I can open
them individually from the attachment box, but in the message body I can only
see a white box with the red X in the top left corner. This doesn't happen
with all the photo attachments I receive in other emails in Windows Mail
however. The same email viewed from my other two (XP) PC's, on which I use
Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express, shows the photos in the message body where
they belong. As a test, I sent myself an email and included several jpegs
photos as attachments. I was able to view them in Windows Mail in the message
body, so I can't say that the inability to view them in the message is
consistent. I would like to be able to always view them in the message. Any
advice on how to configure for that? I never had this problem in Outlook
Express. I have already been to Tools/Options/Security and unchecked the
attachment and images boxes. Thanks, Jimmy.

Just a guess, Jimmy: See if the JPG files you cannot view are created using
the CMYK "color space" ... as opposed to RGB. If you're unfamiliar with
those terms, e-mail me off-list and I'll go into more detail.

Bill

Thanks for the response Bill. I saved one of the jpg images so I could view
the right click properties (apparently you can't view the properties of an
attachment until it is saved) from the test email I sent to myself. This was
the same email that allowed me to view the jpeg attachments in the message
body. In "Color Representation" in the the Property column the value is
listed as sRGB. In the email that I can't view any of the jpeg attachments in
the message body, there is no value listed. I am not familiar with CMYK
"color space" or RGB. I've always been able to view any jpeg attachments
using Outlook Express, which as far as I know, I can't use with Vista. Do you
know of any fix or work around. It is a pain in the ass to have to open each
image individually. I see this sometimes in Outlook too, but I have never
understood the reason behind why some jpeg's can be seen in the message and
why some can not. Thanks, Jimmy.
