joining a domain

I dont understand why I cant select the option to join a domain at the
control paner\system panel , I cant click on join a domain, anyone knows why
and whats the solution?/

You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group on the Local
machine.

Could it be cos he is XP Home the reaons i ask is im doin a computer course
on networkin and i just wondered if it cos hes running XP Home

You are correct - an XP Home machine cannot be joined to a domain. I don't
happen to have an XP Home machine handy, but I would guess that on such
machines the domain option doesn't appear at all rather than simply being
greyed out.

Its not home edition, but MCE edition

That may be your answer. If this is Media Center Edition 2005, domain
membership is not supported unless you upgraded from a prior version that
was joined to a domain. In the upgrade scenario, you can retain but not
create domain membership. See:
