join domain/active directory

HELP! I had to reinstall Windows 2003 on my file server which was also a DC
(before ir crashed) After the reinstall, I can't join it to the domain. I go
thru the entire AD setup & it fails with 'specified user already exists'
message.
There is another DC in the domain. When I check AD users + computers the
name of the server I'm trying to add in is there. Do I need to delete it from
there then try to join or what?

Yes, you need to delete the computer object.

You also need to perform a metadata cleanup at some point. I would
recommend you do this before promoting the rebuilt box.

Thanks a lot. I now have 2 DCs on the network again. Now for a little
housekeeping + minor tweaking so the users can find their stuff. I might even
get a few minutes to catnap b4 they show up for work.
