I don't know if this is the place to report things to the Outlook/Office
programmers but some of the Jewish religious holidays are wrong for the
majority of Jews in the world. In the Diaspora (everywhere outside Israel)
Orthodox jewry celebrates one more day's holiday (and extra "Holy" days) for
Pesach (Passover), Shavuot (Feast of Weeks) and Succot (Tabernacles) -
Collectively known as the Three Foot or Pilgrim Festivals. Also Shemini
Atzeret and Simchat Torah (both celebrated at the end of Succot) are on
separate days. So, taking next Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) - September
2006 - as a start point these festivals occur on the following dates in the
diaspora:
6 October - Erev Sukkot
7 October - Sukkot
8 October - Sukkot
9 October - Hol HaMoed Sukkot (1st Day)
10 October - Hol HaMoed Sukkot (2nd Day)
11 October - Hol HaMoed Sukkot (3rd Day)
12 October - Hol HaMoed Sukkot (4th Day)
14 October - Shemini Atzeret
15 October - Simchat Torah
16 October - Isru Hag (Sukkot)
2 April - Erev Passover [Note: to use hebrew words like Erev and Hol HaMoed
and
then the english name of the festival is
extremely
incongruous. If Succot and Shavuot can
be used then
Passover should be called Pesach - its
hebrew name]
3 April - Passover
4 April - Passover
5 April - Hol HaMoed Passover (1st Day)
6 April - Hol HaMoed Passover (2nd Day)
7 April - Hol HaMoed Passover (3rd Day)
8 April - Hol HaMoed Passover (4th Day)
9 April - Passover 7th Day
10 April - Passover 8th Day
11 April - Isru Hag (Passover)
22 May - Erev Shavuot
23 May - Shavuot
24 May - Shavuot
25 May - Isru Hag (Shavuot)
and so on for the following years...
