Jerky movie after downloading

I am trying to get started on making dvds from my downloaded minidv files. I
am running a Pentium 3 800 Mhz with an external 250 GB hd using Movie Maker.
When viewed after successfully downloading the video it appears jerky. I
even burned a VCD and it also was jerky. Am I wasting my time with the
slower processor? I notice most everyone is using processors in the GBs.
Are there things I can do to help elimate the jerkyness without buying a new
computer?

The specs are really really low for video capture, editing, encoding etc....
all I can suggest is disconnecting the PC from the internet, and disabling
any applications that you have running in real time which includes firewall
and antivirus (hence the need to disconnect from the big bad world of the
internet but please do remember to restart them afterwards and BEFORE you go
online again).....

This will allow the CPU to give your video applications as much as it
possible can. But I'm afraid, in the long run, a new CPU will be on your
shopping list. Since it will also need a new motherboard and new RAM, you
might find it more economical to look for an entire new PC.

Thank you Cari. That's what I suspected. I wish I had looked into what was
needed BEFORE I bought the camera. I have already upgraded several items in
preparation for the camera but still not enough. Oh well, back to the
drawing board. Thanks again for your input.
