Karen

I have windows xp with service pack 1
Internet Explorer 6 with service pack 1
I can view java applets for some web sites with no problem.
Other web sites nothing will happen.
I have read every Java post herein since April, and I have
tried all of the tests, which all passed.
I have disabled Norton, disable popup stopper, in fact everything
running that I could kill their process and still the same problem
oocurs. I am using Microsoft's Virtual Machine, I even downloaded the
latest Sun's Java and still had the same problems....
Here is the funny part. I boot into safe mode and all the links work!
I figure it must be a program causing the problem, but why do some web
sites load fine?
Here is the link that will not load :
http://www.chat-web.com/adultschat/adultschat1.html

However it loaded fine in "Safe Mode" But under normal windows
it just sits there and does nothing.

I have researched for more than 10 hours and still cannot resolve the
problem. Again I tried everyone's suggestions and none worked for me.
Please Help.

IE6 SP1 IS A PIECE OF CRAP, PURE AND SIMPLE. I had a working browser UNTIL I downloaded SP1. Now I can't do my online banking because SP1 has rendered my browser a GELDING. I no longer have 128-bit encyrption; when I check the About tab, it says 0-bit encryption. It appears, according to the DELICATE GENIUSES at MS, that approx. three required files are missing, thanks obviously to my unwise update to SP1

Find KB article # 261328 on how to restore these files. I haven't tried it yet. Am going to download freebie browser from MOZILLA.ORG and use that.........if it works

Once again, the pimple-faced putzes at Redmond blew it. Buggy, buggy updates. Par for the course. You download the latest update only to find it has trashed your formerly working browser, and now you must do more work in hopes of getting back to square one. PATHETIC, SIMPLY PATHETIC, MICRO-SLOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but why do some web sites load fine?

Because safe mode inhibits some programs from loading.
Figure out which programs aren't loading then manually inhibit
or allow them selectively (e.g. using msconfig) and see if you
can avoid your symptom. E.g. if there is only one program
which is causing the problem removing it could be the solution.

<title>KB316434 - HOW TO: Perform Advanced Clean-Boot Troubleshooting in Windows XP</title>

Notice all the links to related articles at the bottom of that document.

Tip: if you have a lot of programs which you want to test and your
assumption is that there may be only one which is causing the problem
you can cut your testing time by cutting the set of inhbited programs
in half each time. E.g. that way in a set of 16 programs you could
guarantee that you could find a problem one in 4 tests instead of
a potential worst case of 16 tests (and average of 8) just doing sequential
testing. Etc.

FWIW I don't have the Sun VM and the applet seems to load for me.
The .cab file for the Java stuff doesn't expire and is cacheable
so it may help for you to try to refresh with Ctrl-F5.
If the Last modified: is correct that seems unlikely to be changed,
(e.g. I see 2001-02-20 13:28 for it) but yours could be corrupt.
Of course the other way to avoid that possibility would be to clear
your TIF. I'm not sure how I would explain how this possibility
would be related to your observation about being able to use
the site in safe mode. (I have some ideas but they are really just
uninformed speculation.)

Good luck

Robert,
Thank you for your feedback.. I agree that it must be a program that
is loading which is causing this page not to load. When I installed
Sun's Java I received a message about "applet notinted"
I don't even receive that message with Mircrosoft's Virtual maching.

I have ended the processes of all programs that were not essential for
windows to operate, and still no go.

It is funny how some pages with applets will load and others will not.
This page with Java Applet runs fine:
http://members.aol.com/alvareze/spanish/frame.html
but this page: http://www.advancedchat.com/maturechat/mature.html
will not!.
Strange don't you think?

In the status bar you mean? Or somewhere else? Perhaps you
should enable the Java Console?

Have you done any checks for malware or bad BHO?
See others' posts for examples for scanning tools you can use
for refined diagnoses. The simplest check would be the one
documented here:

Not really. The two programs are totally different.
Compare their outputs in the Java Console, for example.

Good luck

Robert,
I tried everything that you suggested and still no go...
I even downloaded A2 Free to check for
Malware, it did detect a file, I deleted the file but still
no go.....
Thanks for your help anyway, guess I just will have to live
without this feature on some web sites.
