java still not working

I tried every thing sent to me so far remove and reinstall and still no luck
getting java to work, I don't get the steaming java Cup, just red X's

What version of Windows are you using, RTM, SP1, SP2?

If you're not sure;

Start
-> Run
--> type winver press enter
---> new box with

Microsoft ® Windows
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2 <- that's the important bit there.

Also, have you ever installed Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine? XP
originally shipped with Microsoft's Virtual Machine (from memory was removed
at SP1). Perhaps the two are conflicting some how.

Sorry I'm not much help with this, but may be a bit more info can trigger
Jimmy's java subsystem.
