Java problems

Anyone have any idea for some help with Java? I have a Gateway computer
with Windows XP Pro. I have kept my XP as current as possible by doing the
critical updates from Microsoft's website. I use IE 6 as my internet
browser. It came with the computer and I also have updated IE 6 under the
critical updates as well.

Here is my issue: When I go browse the internet some of the web pages do
NOT load completely because it says I am do not have all the latest and
greatest Java support available and installed on my machine. Well, as I
read about this and check my computer, I have come to the conclusion that I
need to get some plugin or something that supports Java better. Can you
tell me exactly what I should get?? Should I get something from Microsoft
or should I get something from Java.com. Exactly what should I be looking
for, what should I get from the site, how do I install it, do I have to
changes settings (or will that be automatic) and will it goof up other
things in Windows XP?
Thank you,
Joe
