Java problem

When attempting to run a speed test on DSLReports, I get the message "your
browser does not support java". I have downloaded the add-in from Sun and
checked all my IE settings. I continue to get the empty box. Someone
please help me. I'm concerned that it might be causing problems elsewhere
without my knowing it. Thank you.

Thanks for your help. When following your link to test the installation,
the test fails. I do not see the applet start. I followed the instructions
to check all of my settings and everything looks correct. Is there anything
else that I should look at? Thanks again.

I would open Control Panel, Add/Remove programs - scroll through the
listing and remove/uninstall all Java packages. They (Sun) can co-exist so
you may have more than one.
Reboot the PC and re-install Java. It's also possible that you have set a
Add-on manager block for the Java Plug-in. But, when the test fails that's
usually associated with a bad/incomplete installation.
You should also look in IE's Advanced tools options and make sure that
the Java plug-in is enabled.

I should mention that I have 2 computers. Java is working on one and not
the other. When following the instructions on the Sun web site to fix my
problem, it says to check the box in the IE options that says to use Java 2.
The computer that works has the option for Java 2. The computer that's not
working says to use Java 1.5. When attempting to reinstall Java, I get the
message that says I'm using the current version.

After you downloaded the "addin" from Sun, did you "install" it? You have 2
choices on the Sun Java site, download/install (in the same action) or
download to some location on your harddrive, go find the file in said
location, and run to install. From the sounds of it, you did the latter,
but failed to go find the file and install it.

I am still fighting with this. The only difference I can see between my 2
computers is that the computer that works has an entry in IE options under
Microsoft VM called "JIT compiler for Virtual Machine enabled." The
computer that won't run Java applets does not have a section for Microsoft
VM. Could this be my problem? If so, where do I get MS VM? I'm running XP
SP2 on both computers. Thanks to all of you for your help.
