java and chat

I have been trying to get into chat rooms using ei 6
(lavalife) and everytime the chat applet loads up it
freezes that particular window (lavalife and applet). I
have tried download the java software to no avail. It
keeps doing the same thing every time, any help?

removing temporary files may let the applet to be downloaded again and to
work fine...
