iTunes and XP

R

Richard Taylor

I purchased XP Home Edition after purchasing an iPod so
as the new iTunes would be compatible, I originally
downloaded iTunes on Me and then opened it up on XP Home
Edition. It had been running fine for about 1 month and
then after i had been on the internet I tried to open it
up and received this message:

"The iTunes Music Library File cannot be read because it
does not appear to be a valid library type."

Since that time I have not been able to access the iTunes
and use my iPod as I would like.
I am also getting thrown out of the internet because I
receive a Remote Call Procedure which gives me 1 minute
to exit all my software and then closes the computer down?

Please could you email me at
(e-mail address removed) and tell me what I am
doing wrong. I am very frustrated and cannot use the
internet or my iPod, something I purchased XP Home Office
to help me do!

Many thanks

For one, you are posting your real email address to a public Usenet
newsgroup, ready for address harvesters to grab. Usenet is the
playground of address harvesters. This places you wide open for various
viruses which can cause your particular RPC/reboot error.

I advise you to scan your system for viruses using an up-to-date virus
scanner. If any are found, make sure they are removed. This might
necessitate the reinstallation of your OS, or at least a repair, if some
necessary OS files were deleted during the virus disinfection process.

As for your iTunes error, it sounds like your library has become
corrupted, perhaps by a virus.

Emailing posters to a newsgroup is contra-indicative, since the purpose
of a public newsgroup is to help a wide variety of users who may have a
common problem.
