Cause I'm paying money for nothing except to spend hours trying and not
reading messages.

You preferred option may be to let MS screw you but I'll fight back. I gave
them 5 days before reacting. That's ample time. It takes 8 hours to rebuild
the server. So I gave them 15 times as long as they needed.

I some countries you pay for phone time by the minute, so if you are getting nothing while online then it is money spent for nothing. Not really anyone stealing, but David is gone to his dark place today.

Microsoft does not monitor these news groups, they are unmoderated. All
you're doing is spamming everyone else who reads these news groups. If you
want action you won't get results sitting in a chair at a computer.
Your posts are totally psychotic.

I waited paitently for 5 days. If my computer ever tries to pull this stuff
I yank the power cord out of the wall. I can't do that to the MS servers.

And my main concern is the theft of my time.

I stopped downloading all message bodies when XP was released as I can't
afford to download all traffic as I was incurring $30 to $60 in excess
usuage charges. So when the bodies aren't available I can't read them.

I don't download anything from Windows Update (or any program from anywhere)
cos I can't afford to go into excess usuage charges. I spend 20% of my
income, not including capital costs, to answer others posts and read the
paper online (saves $8 per week). If I don't watch excess usuage (and excess
phone calls) I can pay up to 40% of my income.

But it's the hours of not getting posts that I'm upset about.

Yes, very frustrating at the least. Time to step back and get a little
perspective perhaps.

David,

We all share the annoyance factor. And when this happens, I just take a
break from the groups and go find something else to do for a while. We all
enjoy helping others, and that's why we do it. But when things break,
beyond our control, there isn't much we can do about it, but bide our time
until things are resolved.

Obviously David thinks he can do something else. It's not like this is
some "free service" provided by MS out of their magnanimity. With over
400% markup on their wholey OS, MS consumers have bought and paid for
this numerous times over.

How hard is it really to keep a newsgroup up and running on the net? Is
this an example of how MS's services will run under the banner of
"Trustworthy Computing?"

We all experienced this, and it is very much a disappointment when the
replies don't show about a dozen + posts that are in limbo, some of them
were posts that I spent some time researching to help the poster. It is very
frustrating when your efforts are lost due to a software malfunction. I
think we all have the same agenda to help our fellow peers with support from
experience or research.

MS doesn't seem to realize the damage they are dong to their Windows brand
by leaving this situation to fester for a week. Imagine if you are a
self-sufficient, knowledgeable individual who is given the option of using
the NG's to solve a problem with your new XP, rather than going to the
subcontracted "MS" no-nothings in India. You have even been directed to the
NG by a link in your new operating system. And then the NG's are ALL running
up to 11 hours behind, and when you click on a header to do some research,
the message self-deletes.

It is inexcusable. If a software company cannot program their way out of
this SWEN email fiasco, it is their bureaucracy which is to blame, not the
abilities of their programmers.

As I said to someone tonight - I'm sure that many take pleasure in seeing MS
called on it. As MVPs can't act like I do someone should do it.

As far as I know the only place MS has made announcements about it is in
private groups. Which most of us here don't see.

There is one post in a thread that I've been trying to get the body since
8pm (5 hours). Finally gave up marked the whole group as read.

At the Win2000 launch they had compaq there showing how you could unplug a
server and everything rolls over to another server without the user
realising it. Guess it doesn't work for NNTP.

So, David....did you ever get around to killing somebody to resolve your
problem or did you decide against that?

They wouldn't pay my bus fare there, so no.
