Climate Change damage wider than forecast: UN

TOP climate experts warned last night that global warming will cause faster and wider damage than previously forecast.
... I watched "The Day after Tomorrow" last night ... think I'll go home to Scotland.

I hope to be around in 2020, but I ain't looking forward to all this doom-&-gloom. :(

My local Council is stepping up to the plate and instigating new incentives to recycle our household waste, even "discarded food" bins. :thumb:

I have all energy saving bulbs, but an antiquated electric cooker ... maybe I should also turn off my PCs at night.

What are you doing ?

For some very strange reason I keep thinking of
Frazer from Dad's Army with his exaggeratedly Scots-accented 'We're doomed!' 'We're doomed!'.

Its all really really all so sad...Take a look at these pictures..While its my ancestry directly, 250 years or more as potters, they really didnt know the damage they were doing . These pics were taken around the potteries in the early 1900`s. But they were not alone...The Americans are the biggest offenders but we can all help in our own little way. I recycle glass, paper etc .
I hope its not too late :(

But as we all know things aint looking good..Some more info here (hope you dont mind Mucks)

All nations need to do their bit for the environment.

You just have to look at nations such as China whose developing economic growth is not exactly eco friendly either. Also, look at what is happening in Brazil with the Amazon Rain Forests.

It is not just the G8 nations that are the problem; the developing nations have to take some responsibility as well. :(

Whats in store for 2020 then?

As for "discarded food" bins thats what my parents used to feed animals in the WWII.
May be as no one seems to keep chickens or pigs anymore this does not happen.

I'm doing my bit. I dont use televisions at all or the radio. I'm trying my best to recycle and seriously not using energy whenever possible.

Are you?

Hello.
With regard to these energy saving light bulbs.

Has any one read the small artical in the Sunday Telegraph this week end?
It`s on page 16.

In it a lady was inserting a Compact Fluorescent Lamp into a light fitting in her daughters bedroom. The bulb fell and broke.
She rang the shop it came from, asking how to dispose of it.She was told that, because it contained mercury, she should ring the "Poison Control hotline" They put her in touch with her local Department of Environmental Protection.
They found that the contamination was so high she was advised not to touch it but call in a local contractor.A month after the event the childs room was still sealed off.
We are being advised to change over to these CFL`s as quickly as possible "to save the planet" The EU wants to make them compulsory from 2009.
But Brussels has still not worked out how to dispose of them, when they end their lives. And EU directives on "Restrictions on Hazardous Substances" banned the disposal of mercury in landfill.
These lamps are not as "friendly" as they are made out to be.
All the best
