I have repeatedly run the MS Antispywear, each time
getting an 'all clear' at the end BUT the above item
(which I take to be a nasty trojan) comes back, if I
instruct delete OR quarantine............

Restart in safe mode and choose fullscan with all options checked.

Also download/install CCleaner and emty all temporarily folders before
restart. www.ccleaner.com

About safe mode:

Read this kb and you press F8 just before Windows flag screen appears
during
boot/start.
