Issues with Win XP VPN to Win 2000 RAS connection

I have created a VPN connection from my remote XP workstation behind a router
on a DSL line. I am connecting to a Win 2000 behind a router on a DSL line.
I connect okay, but I am having trouble accessing resources.
I ran "ipconfig" and a couple of things don't look right on the server side.

First, the subnet mask is all 255s.
Second, there is no Default gateway.

Any ideas?

The output from ipconfig is below.

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : amertech.net
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

PPP adapter Parts Finishing Group:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.119
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Hi,

The all 255 subnet mask shouldnt matter.
You are not able to access resources because you default gateway is not set.

To get the default gateway, open the properties of the connectoid
-> Networking
-> Internet Protocol
-> Properties
-> Advanced
-> Check the box for "Use default gateway on remote
ntework"

Is this the IPCONFIG of the client machine? I am concerned about the IP
addresses. When you connect, your machine is receiving an IP address in the
192.168.1.0/24 subnet. But this is the same subnet as your local area
connection. No routing will take place if both are in the same IP subnet.
Your client will not send traffic across the VPN connection to a 192.168.1.x
address. It will try to deliver it locally.

This is the case. Both subnets are the same. I cannot change the subnet on
the remote server, but I don't see why i can't on my local site (just a plain
old home office). If i change to 192.168.2.1 for my gateway, will this work?

Yep. 192.168.2.0 is fine. Anything other than 192.168.1.0 should work.
The local and remote sites just need to be in different IP subnets, so that
routing will work.
