Recommended for use to check CD disk quality.

Anybody used it, comments on it?

What kind of comments do you want?

Never heard of it checking "disk quality". It will make/read iso files
from discs; it will check files on a disc to make sure they are
readable; it can also help in recovering data from bad discs.

This was the recommendation on alt.comp.periphs.cdr. There sure are a few nasty
people there.

I ran it and agree, sure not obvious about quality check.

BTW, from your past posts, do you have any comments on my thread on CD Coasters?

Mike, I love this guy. Have used it for years to recover files from
CD's [not tried DVD recovery yet.] Liked it so much I bought it.

It does a WONDERFUL job of recovery from damaged/corrupted CD's. I've
tried many, many products, but for my needs, this one has the
hands-down best recovery rate.

It is especially good at recovery from UDF programs, such as Roxio's
Easy CD-DVD Creator [Roxio's name varies over the years.]

Reasons I like it:

Very often, recovery is FULL, meaning absolutely no files lost.

Excellent at recovery UDF format CD's.

While some recovery software just recovers data and says it's complete,
ISOBuster tells me when it's probably x% complete. It's usually right,
too.

Full filename recovery works well. Other recovery software, I think one
is CDRoller, will sometimes recover files as Filename001, Filename002,
ie, with generic filenames. Then it's up to you to laboriously rename
files to something meaningful. Not so with ISOBuster.

It's fast! Recovery time is incredible, very fast, beats pants [or
other garments] off of, eg CDRoller. I can't tell you the number of
times I used CDRoller to recover -- hours and hours later, only to get
say, 30% recovery, but with generic filenames, and incomplete recovery
listed as fully recovered.

For my needs, ISOBuster is fast, fast, fast & does a great all-around
job. I can even recover files other programs can't.

Don't mean to pick on the Shareware CDRoller, but that's the last
program I put ISOBuster head-to-head with, using some badly corrupted
CD files. First, a CD that a feller had ejected forcefully out of his
PC before write was complete. Second, a whole stack of rather warped
CD's that some doofus had left in his car's rear window ledge for a
week of sun-toasting. Recovery for both sets was close to 100%.

The first line below is misleading. Either a program is freeware or it
isn't. This program can be considered to be either an obnoxious type of
PROmotionware OR, if you're somebody who has magically figured out how
to make UDF formatting work, it's crippleware.

I don't know about you, but I detest it when a program tells me I can't
access a feature unless I send the author(s) money. From the Isobuster
site. There are better ways to promote a more full featured version:

"IsoBuster is part Freeware and part Shareware.

What does this mean ?

Lots of features of IsoBuster are entirely for free, others need to be
paid for (*)

A lot of knowledge, experience, research and effort has been put into
this small but powerful application.
It goes without saying that a registration, even for the free
functionality, is appreciated.
Consider it as a contribution to the research. You never know when you
will have need for the registration-restricted functionality.
The cost is deliberately kept low to be able to offer a solution to
everybody.
High end software at a low price is a major priority for Smart Projects,
yet it requires some fair play of everybody to be able to guarantee
continuity.

If you install IsoBuster and want to make use of the free functionality
only, click the "Free Functionality" button when prompted.
If you run into functionality that needs to be paid for, you will be
prompted. There are no hidden features so you need not to wonder what a
paid for version would show extra. You can safely install IsoBuster on
your system, there are no xx-days limitations to the free use, you may
install at work or wherever you like.

FYI, Smart Projects intends to keep adding both registration-restricted
and free functionality in future versions.

For a registration : pay online and get a key sent to you automatically
on payment verification.

(*) All functionality prior to version 1.0 is free and remains free.
All functionality related to the ISO9660, Joliet, Rock Ridge, El Torito
and CD-i file-systems, everything related to Video CDs and all
image-file making functionality is free. So, finding data, extracting
(copying) data etc. is free.

Part of the functionality related to the UDF and HFS(+) file-systems is
not free and needs to be paid for. This is the extraction of files that
come from the UDF [drag & drop software] or HFS(+) [Macintosh]
file-systems. So, all functionality is present, including scanning and
finding of lost files, but if you actually want to extract (copy) a file
from the UDF or HFS file-system you need a valid registration."
