Can anyone tell me what the file "ISASS.exe" does in the XP platform, or tell
me where I can find that info?
Thanks

It's the security manager.
Local Security Authority Subsystem Service

I presume that is a lower case L in your question.

Thanks, David. I wasn't sure if it was a lower case L or an I.
I wonder why it often comes up then shuts down my system since it is
associated with security. I don't know of any security problems, except maybe
- when I uninstalled Norton Systemworks the uninstaller left Norton Ghost
partly in my system - not working but indicating it's still there. Maybe I
should search the registry and eliminate all references to Norton. What do
you think?

It doesn't do that. Just shuts down. If I leave it off for about 5 minutes it
starts normally. how do i fix this?

if it comes up and gives u the message that ur computer will be shutdown in
60 seconds then ur system is infected with sassear worm and norton
references have nothing to do with it
