Isass.exe on laptop, will not operate

On my Toshiba 2400-S210 With XP

When turning on the Microsoft page comes up and the status
bar continues to run. After 3 or 4 minutes a window comes
up with Isass.exe-Application Error. If I close or hit OK
the screen goes blank.

This is usually a fatal error. Try doing a repair with your Toshiba
disks first. You may wind up reinstalling the entire OS though. Be
sure you backup all your data prior to using the Toshiba disks.
