Is Windows XP license also valid for Windows 2000

Well basically the subject is my only question. I have
some software that is only valid for Win2K and I have a PC
with WinXP. Can I use my WinXP license for setting up a
Win2K system?

Windows 2000 is an operating system.
Windows XP is an operating system.

You must have an operating system on a computer in order to
run software APPLICATIONS.

Since software marketed in the year 2000 does not have any
way to know about Windows XP coming on the market, the
software won't say on the box or data sheet that it will
work on a later OS.

AS to the question about "using Win XP license for setting
up a Win2K system" NO.

The installation product keys are different, you need the
product key for that OS to install that OS. The keys for XP
and W2K are not the same, the keys are even different for
different versions of each OS, whether retail, OEM or
upgrade.

You will also have to have product keys for the software
applications to install them.

What software? Windows 2000 and XP are very similar, and it is
highly unlikely that a program will run under Windows 2000, but
not XP. It's much more likely that the reason it says 2000 and
not XP on the box is just that XP didn't yet exist when thus
software came out.

downgrade rights.
