Is this an ISP issue?

I've been trying to set up a Remote Desktop web
connection. I have read several step-by-step guides and
I'm fairly confident I've done everything correctly. I
even found out a list of the ports my ISP (Cablevision -
Optimum Online) blocks (e.g., 80, 8080, etc.), so I
randomly chose a port (actually I've tried several) that
is not blocked. When I try to my computer from a remote
computer using the appropriate URL
(http://ipaddress:port/tsweb/), I get the old "Cannot
find server" message.

I've also tried to set up a simple IIS web server to test
that out also (also using various ports) and I have the
same problem.

Does this sound like an IIS problem or an ISP problem?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

In the http://ipaddress:port/tsweb, the port number must be the port
you use for IIS...

The best way to troubleshoot this is to use the real client (MSTSC) to
try to connect to make sure you have connectivity. If this works, you
can move on to the more complex tasks like setting up the RDWC...

Jeffrey,

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it using MSTSC and
it works fine. However, RDWC still does not work (nor
does my Default Web Site). Since MSTSC works and since
I'm using a port I know is not blocked by ISP, I guess my
ISP is not the issue -- must be my IIS.

Yes, when trying to access RDWC, I do specify in the URL
the port number I assigned to the Default Web Site in the
IIS snap-in. I've also turned off the firewall
completely for now (I'll turn it back on and open the
appropriate port later). I'm using a cable modem, but no
router, so no router issues.

Please help. This is driving me crazy!

Don't be too sure about the port not being blocked...

Try accessing the web site locally by typing in
http://ipaddress:port/tsweb. See if you can get to it... If it
works, then IIS is working OK and the problem is either at your
firewall/router or ISP.
