Is this a virus

On my wife's computer,

1) she got a disk full message
2) there was a weird folder with a GUID type name on the C
drive that could not be deleted
3) there was an application with the name as 2) folder (above)
in the windows task manager list.
4) reboot, gets the memory test, a few other items, then a
quick message I can't see, then the system hangs.

Is this a known virus? Which One? If this is a virus, then what are
the steps taken to get rid of it?

Thanks,
max

I had just run Avg the night before. Avg checks for current virus
defs once a week, and I had just force it to look for new virus defs
within the last two or three days. Now what is the current Anti-virus
scanner saying now. Not really very much, since I haven't been able
to boot the box yet.

I was just wondering if the above scenario was indicative of an known
virus. Furthermore, if it is is a know virus, that what's next. On
the other hand, this is a older PII-350 machine, so spending a lot of
time and money is probably unreasonable.

Nicky, thanks for you response .

At last a clue, but not yet enough. You might get a better response
if you'd at least tell us which version of Windows this is. Is that a
secret??

Have you tried Safe Mode?
